After a stressful week a work I was ready for a change and fortunately I got the invite to travel south to Monterey for beaches and Jazz at the Monterey Jazz festival. I've never been to the festival before and I was excited to checkout how the festival was presented.

Since we didn’t have reservation at a hotel in Monterey we decided to do the best frugal thing. We camped in the City of Monterey for a very reasonable $20.00 a day. Unknown to me Veteran Memorial Park existed 8 blocks from downtown Monterey with campsites, showers, picnic tables, and playgrounds facilities

My only complaint about the Veteran Memorial was the bathroom cleaning was maybe once a day but it never delved into the super gross category. After arriving at Veteran Memorial and setting up our campsite we toured Monterey, Pacific Grove. and Carmel.

Monterey small but cute it's really a small town with cute shops, a world class aquarium and some of the most beautiful protected coastline you will see in California. The wildlife is abundance with seals, pelicans, dolphins easily spotted What struck me about the area was also the abundance of homes so close to the coast, it’s quiet an act that both have been able to survive (wildlife and million dollar houses in such close proximity

Acourse we had to stop and enoy the beaches. We went to a beach near Silomar not crowded and warm, we had our first taste of relaxing. After the beach we retruned to our campsite changed and headed out to the festival.

The festival is held at the Monterey fair grounds, I was expecting this huge expansive event where attendances would be required to walk miles between acts. But what I found was an intimate environment where walking between the acts was comfortable. Where people are relax, into the music and ready for a mellow good time.

There was so much good music it's difficult to begin but two artists that I wasn't familar with but now have me looking for more are Charles Lloyd and Geri Allen. Charles LLoyd quartet which included Geri Allen was bopping full of energy and intensity. Their performance brought excitement to the festival.
